Why two quotations for the same kW differ so much
A 10 kW system is not a product, it is an assembly. Two companies can both write '10 kW' on a quotation while using very different panels, inverters, cable gauges, protection devices and mounting structures. The difference shows up three years later, in output, in safety and in warranty claims that nobody honours.
In Karachi the climate makes this worse. Salt-laden coastal air, dust from construction and 45°C summer roof temperatures punish cheap aluminium structures, thin DC cable and no-name inverters. Cost per kW means nothing until you know what is inside the kW.
The five cost blocks in any Karachi solar quotation
Break every quote you receive into these blocks and compare like for like. If a supplier cannot itemise them, that is your answer.
- Modules — tier-1 mono PERC or N-type TOPCon panels, with the datasheet degradation warranty in writing.
- Inverter — on-grid, hybrid or off-grid; hybrid costs more but is what most Karachi homes actually need for load-shedding.
- Battery — optional on pure on-grid systems; lithium LFP costs more upfront than lead-acid and far less per usable cycle.
- BOS — structure, DC/AC cable, breakers, SPD, earthing, combiner box. This is where cheap quotes hide their savings.
- Services — design, installation labour, K-Electric net-metering documentation, commissioning and handover.
Reading your K-Electric bill before you buy
Pakistani tariffs are slabbed, so the value of every solar unit depends on the slab you are sitting in. A household consuming 900 units a month saves far more per kW than one consuming 250 units, because the top slab units are the expensive ones and solar shaves those first.
Bring twelve months of bills to your survey. We build a monthly consumption curve, overlay Karachi's irradiation profile, and size the array so you offset expensive units without exporting an uneconomic surplus.
Payback: what is realistic in Karachi
For a well-designed on-grid or hybrid system on a Karachi rooftop with good south exposure and minimal shading, payback typically lands in a few years rather than a decade — driven mostly by your tariff slab, your daytime usage share and whether net metering is approved.
Batteries change the maths. A battery is bought for comfort and continuity during outages, not primarily for payback. Size it around your critical loads — fridge, fans, lights, pump — instead of your whole connected load, and the economics stay sane.
Get an itemised number for your own roof
We do not publish blanket per-kW pricing because roof structure, cable runs, shading and battery choice move the figure materially. Our survey is free anywhere in Karachi and ends with a written, itemised proposal you can compare against any other quotation.
Frequently asked questions
- Does solar make sense with a low electricity bill in Karachi?
- Below roughly 200–300 units a month the savings are modest and payback stretches out. Above that, and especially above 500 units, solar becomes strongly economic because it removes your highest-tariff slab units first.
- Is a battery necessary in Karachi?
- Not for savings — for continuity. A pure on-grid system stops during a K-Electric outage. If uninterrupted power matters, a hybrid inverter with a lithium battery sized to your critical loads is the right answer.
