Cost is an assembly, not a product
A quotation that says '10 kW — total price' hides five separate decisions: module type, inverter class, battery chemistry, balance-of-system quality and the service scope. Two honest companies can differ by a third simply because one of them is quoting equipment that will still be working in year ten.
The components that move the number most
In descending order of impact on a Pakistani installation:
- Battery capacity and chemistry — the single largest swing on hybrid systems
- Inverter class — on-grid is cheapest, hybrid costs more and does more
- Module tier — tier-1 N-type versus unbranded stock
- Mounting structure — galvanised versus thin painted iron, critical near the coast
- Cabling, protection and earthing — where cheap quotes quietly save money
What the price should include
A complete quotation includes design, delivery, installation labour, protection devices, earthing, commissioning, net-metering paperwork and a handover document with the actual model numbers installed. If model numbers are missing, the price is not comparable to anything.
Frequently asked questions
- Is solar still worth it in Pakistan in 2026?
- For households in higher tariff slabs, yes — solar shaves the most expensive units first, which is where the payback comes from.
- Should I buy the cheapest quotation?
- Only if the itemised components match. Cheaper usually means thinner cable, weaker structure or an unbranded inverter.
